Contact Dermatitis
Contact or touch dermatitis is the result of direct contact with a skin-irritating substance, such as plants, cosmetics, fragrances, chlorinated pool water, and even jewellery. In its wake, it leaves behind a noncontagious yet uncomfortable, itchy rash within minutes up to a few days of its exposure.
Symptoms of Contact Dermatitis
Wherever the skin is exposed to the substance, the reaction will follow. A rash can last anywhere from two to four weeks. Within the rash, you may experience leathery patches of skin that are darker than the surrounding skin.
You may also notice bumps or blisters, with crust formations, or dry, scaly skin that can become cracked. The skin will be tender, may swell, and have a burning sensation.
Contact Dermatitis Treatment
If your skin is feeling raw from exposure to the substance, is widespread over your body, it doesn’t get better after a couple of weeks, or you think the skin has become infected, we advise you to seek medical help.
To treat the after effects, such as dry, cracked skin, you can experience contact dermatitis relief from any of the following Dermal Therapy creams or lotions.
Dermal Therapy Sensitive Skin Care Lotion
Our Sensitive Skin Care Lotion is safe to use once the initial irritation has decreased. If you find it stings to apply, because the skin is broken, apply around the broken skin. You may also choose to dilute the lotion with water to lessen the stinging sensation.
Dermal Therapy Barrier Protection Lotion
Our Barrier Protection Lotion effectively works as a protective barrier against common irritants to the skin. It settles deep into the layers of the skin, including silicone that coats the outer layer and can often reduce the effects of an allergic contact dermatitis rash.
